Amazonite is a gemstone of truth, honor, communication, hope, integrity, and trust. It’s energy is as powerful as the river for which it was named and as bold as the tribe of warriors it is connected with. Yet it tempers aggression, stills the disquiet and provides harmony and balance.

Amazonite is called the Stone of Courage and the Stone of Truth. It has been used in jewelry since the time of the early Mesopotamian cultures. It was well-known in India, Egypt, Sudan and Mesopotamia. It was carved and cut into tablets for the Egyptian Book of the Dead and a scarab ring carved of Amazonite was found among Tutankhamen’s treasures.

It has a vitreous luster, and resembles spider-webbed or finely cracked marble and displays a Schiller Effect of pearly iridescence throughout the stone. It’s blue-green color was once thought to be caused by copper compounds, though in the ’80’s, scientists discovered it to be from small quantities of water and lead.
